New York is my town. I was expecting a lot of friends to come out for the book party and was not disappointed. Chef Sara Moulton and her husband Bill Adler, a music industry veteran whom I have known for many years, both showed up, and it was great to have them there considering they have seen the whole evolution of the cookbook from book proposal to self-published, hard-cover edition on Blurb.com to it’s current incarnation on Hippocrene Books. My mentor in the music biz, legendary producer/bassist Bill Laswell also came out with his son Aman. I have been traveling with them to Ethiopia a lot this year for a film I am working on with Bill, and they came out to lend their support along with friends I haven’t seen in years. It was a blast!
The event was held at a most appropriate venue–The Asian American Writers Workshop on W. 27th St.–with its walls covered with books from other Asian American authors (thanks to Hippocrene for arranging that). Signature cocktails–including a cilantro and lime infused gin and tonic–were provided by Bulldog Gin and beer by the Chinese brewery Tching Tao (Thanks to Gillian Corradino at Manhattan Beer Distrbutors). The amazing food, a selection of Sri Lankan short-eats was provided by Sigiri Restaurant at 91 First Ave., in Manhattan (Thanks Chas and Nishantha!).

I should also thank my buddy Efrain Oliva for hooking up all the liquor sponsorships, and Miche Griffin for her presentation of the food platters. Also, thanks to everyone who came out as I know there is so much other stuff going on in New York.
