  1. Sri’s Bownie Restaurant (This is a nov veg place by the Queens Hindu Temple)

143-05 45th Ave (at Bowne Street
    Flushing NY 11355
    Tel: 718-463-8621

Public Transport: Take the #7 subway train to the end of the line at Main Street. At the station take the connecting Q27 Bus (Its a free transfer from subway if you use the MetroCard) and get off at Holly and Bowne Street Intersection. (Travel time 1:15 mins from Mid town Manhattan)

Driving In. Long Island Expresway LIE/495 (East from Manhattan, West from Cross Island Expressway). Kew Gradens Exit, and head north on Kissena Blvd. Turn right at Holly Ave. Restaurant is at Holly and Bowne Intersection. (Travel time 45 mins from Mid town Manhattan).

You have come to the Queens Hindu Temple with you veg friends. You have no wish to be eating veggie stuff. Walk a block along Bownie street to 45th Ave. Right at the intersection is this non-descript place (The owner Sri is also pretty unassuming too). You can have Dosa with Chicken/Goat curry. Or Pittu (Puttu if you are tamil), String hoppers, kottu roti, Appa (Appam). The great thing I found here is that evrything is made from scratch. The red rice is pounded, sieved and then made into pittu, string hoppers or appa.

  2. Hey Skiz, I see you checked out Bownie. I used to really like it a few years ago, but it doesn’t really do it for me anymore. I feel that a lot of their dishes lack flavor. I went to Southern Spice again the other day. It was as good as the last time!

  3. very pleased with the private party we had held at Brownies Downtown for our group of 35.
we enjoyed great food in a very warm and welcoming atmosphere, with only the best service.
Our 4 course dinner started off with very enjoyable crostinis, a great assortment of delicious fresh cheeses, meats and vegetables topped these grilled slices of baquette. We were then presented with a choice of salads between a caesar or verde. The greens seems market fresh, and dressing were very appitizing. Our group had the option of 5 different delicious entree selections. All guests at the party were quite pleased with their entrees. The sweet selections of dessert were also enjoyed by all.
We were very pleased with the chef/owner George Brown for his assistance in the great menu selction for the evening. We were also pleased by the fact he came out to mingle with me and the guests at the party.
I would strongly recommend Brownies Downtown for anyone holding a medium size dinner party for great food, great service, and great value.
